KEM PCT: one software tool for flow meter setup and diagnostics

KEM PCT brings configuration, diagnostics and service of mechanical and Coriolis flow meter electronics into one software tool

KEM Küppers Elektromechanik (KEM Flow Measurement) offers KEM PCT, a PC tool for setting up, monitoring and servicing the electronics fitted to its mechanical flow meters and Coriolis mass flow meters, organised into four working areas.

One tool for two electronics families

Anyone who maintains a mixed installed base of flow meters knows the routine: different converters, different service programs and different ways of reading out what a device is actually doing. KEM PCT addresses this for the manufacturer’s own portfolio. The software works with the ECO electronics used on KEM’s mechanical flow meters and with the TCA electronics that drive its Coriolis mass flow meters, so commissioning and fault finding on both families run through the same interface.

According to the manufacturer, the tool has been built so that later firmware releases and future electronics generations can be added, rather than requiring a separate utility for each new device platform.

Overview, Setup, Diagnostics and Service

The software is divided into four sections that follow the life of a measuring point:

  • Przegląd shows device status, the active settings and current readings, together with a graphical view of how the measurement behaves.
  • Setup covers the base configuration, output settings and totalizers, and is also where firmware updates are carried out.
  • Diagnostics is used to monitor the device, view the messages that are currently active and look back through the event history.
  • Usługa generates a complete image of the device configuration, intended for fault analysis and for passing directly to KEM’s service team.

The last point is of practical value for instrument technicians: instead of describing a problem by phone or collecting parameters by hand, a full configuration snapshot can be handed over to the supplier’s support engineers, which should shorten the back-and-forth when a meter does not behave as expected.

Availability

KEM PCT is distributed through the manufacturer’s customer portal. Users log in with an existing customer account, or register for one, before downloading the software. KEM summarises the approach with the line “One tool. Endless possibilities. Future included.” The manufacturer has not published further details such as supported operating systems or interface hardware in its announcement; users planning to standardise on the tool for commissioning and maintenance work should check those requirements with KEM directly.
