Explosion Safety

For hazardous environments, Marktechnical offers a program of high-quality expolosion-proof instruments that can be used in the (petro)chemical, offshore, gas and oil platforms, nuclear power plants and shipping industry.

Explosion-proof instruments

In the many industrial processes involving the handling of flammable materials, leaks or spills can always create an explosive atmosphere. To protect both personnel and the plant, precautions must be taken to ensure that this atmosphere cannot ignite. Areas at risk are known as "hazardous environments," and materials that usually come into play include crude oil and its derivatives, process gases, alcohols, metal powder, carbon powder, flour, starch, grain and fiber. To make electrical equipment suitable for use in hazardous environments, eight different explosion protection techniques have been developed over the years. National or international standards and codes of practice regulate each of these techniques and define in detail how the equipment should be designed and applied. National certifying (or approving) bodies ensure that design requirements are met, and national inspection services (or insurance companies) provide testing and usually inspect each installation. Different techniques lend themselves to different applications. The two leading techniques for instruments used in process measurement and control are the application of fire resistance (confined spaces) Eex(e)d and intrinsic safety Eex-i. We are happy to provide you with all the information and our solutions to plan safe projects.
